Let's Talk About Love Baby

I am very excited and honored to be participating in the exhibition at Printed Matter, Inc. in New York - Let's Talk About Love Baby. I was asked by a former sculpture professor and amazing artist, Chido Johnson, to participate in this project dealing with love and romance novels. I was familiar with this project because another former professor of mine, Mary Pearse, made a piece a few years ago when I was still working with her, For Pleasure...Or Marriage. I remember loving her idea and loving the idea for this project so when I was approached by Chido my answer was an absolute yes!

I knew I wanted to create something fun and playful and that obviously dealt with jewelry...preferably DIAMONDS! For a while now, Joshua and I have wanted to have an exhibition with all of the diamond photos, some of my button pieces as well as some work he made in response to some of my magazine mutilation. In this exhibition we would also make a 'diamond mine'...this was one of the most exciting pieces and I have been thinking about it since. I thought the Love Library project would be perfect! So... I made a diamond mine in my romance novel - it acts as a metaphor for the search for love and also references jewelry, love, symbols of love, pain, time, excess, romance, etc...

Here are some photos of the process and the final product, Mine

If you are in New York over the next month, be sure to stop by Printed Matter, Inc and check out the library in person! The opening will be February 14th, Valentine's Day, from 6-8pm.

Thank you again to Chido for thinking of me - I really enjoyed working on this project and I hope the show is a great success!

lots of new work

I have been spending a lot of time in the studio over the past few months working on tons of new work and I am very excited about what is happening! I have been wanting to make this work for a while now and in November of last year I had my chance. After finishing my pieces for the Monochrome Noir show I just kept making and making and making. In this work I am playing with single pieces of sheet metal, flatness, form, lace, black & white, line and history... We'll see what happens but at this moment, I am very excited!
